About Mary D.:

Mary D. Nelson is the founder of LaStone® Therapy and is a pioneer in research and development of Geo-thermo-therapy, a technique that utilizes the application of hot and cold stones to the body to bring about a chemical, emotional and Spiritual response. Mary has been experimenting with these theories in conjunction with her development of LaStone® Therapy since 1993.

When Mary graduated from The Desert Institute of the Healing Arts in 1991, she was guided by her inner spirit to begin to explore the energies of the body; it was then that she began to see the difference in her clients after a session with her that involved basic methods of clearing the Auric Fields and supporting the whole experience with ancient ceremonial rituals. Naturally when the Spirit, San Juanette` channeled the information of the stones to Mary she immediately incorporated the techniques that she was exploring regarding balance through the energy systems of the body. Today we now refer to this combination as LaStone® Therapy, a contemporary approach to alternating temperatures on the body through the application of stones in massage modalities.

Mary presently runs the educational department for LaStone® Therapy and continues to offer private sessions with her in Tucson her home town. For appointments please e-mail her at nelson@lastonetherapy.com

Mary was awarded the Spavelous Spa Rose Award as Massage Therapist of the Year in 2008.

A little on the history of how I developed LaStone® Therapy with the help of my spirit guides, on August 19, 1993 I was sitting in a “broken” sauna room talking to my niece Tonya Council (now Bucinell); as we spoke I was also carrying on a side conversation with Spirit. I wanted to know how I was going to carry on as a massage therapist when I continuously injure my right shoulder; I wanted Creator to give me answers as to what I could do to keep my passion alive in body work. The pain in my arm prevented me from doing full Swedish massage; I had been nursing a rotator cuff injury with nutrition, ice packs and basic massage, but the pain was limiting my ability to provide the bodywork I was so passionate about. This was the fourth flare-up, and what had worked in the past was no longer effective in relieving my pain and the ability to have full use of my right arm.
As I sat there in the sauna room with Tonya, I began to internally talk to Spirit regarding my injured arm and what or how was I going to do to be able to continue in the field of massage, asking for guidance and seeking a solution to my inability to perform massage. Then the answer came to me through Spirit, “Pick up the stones”. I did not understand what Spirit was trying to get me to understand and again the voice said, “Pick up the stones”. Once again I was not sure what was the meaning of this message; I needed help with my shoulder and guidance on how I was going to be able to continue as a massage therapist. I relayed my confusion to Spirit, saying that I would get back with them later and we could carry on this conversation, for I must not be making myself clear in what I was requesting of them. So Tonya and began to leave the sauna room and prepare for her scheduled and again the voice spoke to me, “Pick up the stones and use them.” That time it was clear to me what Creator wanted me to do; so I picked up a stone and rubbed it on Tonya’s shoulder and she said “Gosh Aunt Mary, that feels great”. Then both of us picked up some stones and placed them in the ginger fomentation I had heated for her treatment that day.
Of course as soon as I was finished with work on that very first day of picking up the stones and using them, I naturally took them home and showed my Dad, Henry and Rita what had happened that day at work and what I was doing with the stones. I heated the stones on the stove in water and let them all feel what it was like. Dad thought it was a good idea to use stones in this way and wondered what it really meant to me, as always he humored me and supported me in my dreams. And the rest is history.
