Notice: All stones are vulnerable to scratching. A highly
polished surface on an organic stone (marble, limestone,
sardonyx) is more likely to show signs of scratching
than a mineral stone (basalt) will. The organic stones,
which are principally calcium-based, rank 3 on the
industry-standard Mohs hardness scale, while basalt
ranks 6-7. Over time, both will acquire signs of use,
essentially an accumulation of tiny scratches. Accepting
these scratches as the natural consequence of time
and use does not bother of us who are familiar with
the properties of stone.
